We make no secret of the fact that ZVV leaves the driving to others. More specifically, to eight major transport companies and their partners that run the S-Bahn trains, buses, trams and boats. This means ZVV can focus its efforts on planning, finance and marketing – and all of the public transport in the Canton of Zurich can be provided by a single source.

While a tariff network («Tarifverbund») is usually restricted to a joint pricing system and the distribution of revenue, a «Verkehrsverbund» steers the entire public transport system. For this reason, the transport companies hand over individual areas of responsibility to the «Verkehrsverbund». This guarantees that people are able to rely on a coordinated and economically run public transport system.
Although the ZVV logo appears on every vehicle door, ZVV doesn’t own or operate any trains, trams or buses. As an umbrella above the transport companies with market responsibility, it plans, coordinates and markets public transport in the Canton of Zurich, and is primarily tasked with financing. Its focus is the overall system.
