Secret

A glimpse into the archive reveals: ZVV owes its existence to the residents of the Canton of Zurich. Over 30 years ago, they entrusted ZVV with the management of public transport when it was put to the vote. As a public institution, it still follows and serves the will of the people. ZVV takes people further and provides a service for everyone.

Quite literally at your service

ZVV continuously strives to keep public transport running and to improve it for its passengers. Together with the operational transport companies, it devises plans as to which S-Bahn trains, buses, trams and ships run from where to where, or where a line needs to be added and another taken out. In doing so, it follows strategic guidelines as specified by regional authorities and the government, and submits large and expensive projects for approval – either by the elected representatives in the cantonal council or by the public themselves, who are able to have their say in the evolution of the public transport system. In recent years, the residents of the Canton of Zurich have reiterated their trust in ZVV and thereby confirmed its reputation as a well-functioning public transport system.

The Zurich cantonal and state councils decide on the direction in which public transport should develop in the coming years. The individual municipalities also have a say in transport planning so that local requirements are taken into consideration as much as people’s feedback.

Groundbreaking:
a network of opportunities

When hundreds of thousands of commuters are hurrying to work or school from Monday to Friday and people are enjoying their free time at the weekend – that’s when they count on public transport. But when it comes to planning, ZVV doesn’t just think about the masses. Its mission is to make public transport accessible to the entire canton so that as many people as possible can take advantage of its benefits.
